Costumes
Please click on the image above for detailed information and requirements about each costume.
All Students will need to wear their costumes for PICTURE DAY, DRESS REHEARSAL and RECITAL DAYS.
Students do not have to return costumes to the studio after the recital, excpet students that are borrowing a costume from the studio (this option is available for some students enrolled in the pre-professional ballet program).
Please, observe the following:
All costumes will come inside a garment bag.
Keep the costume in the garment bag at all times.
Make sure your costume is not used before the recital date for any purpose other than the Urbana Fine Arts Center’s picture day, dress rehearsal and recital.
Most ballet costumes will need to be steamed. If you don’t have a steamer, the easiest thing to do is to hang the costume in a bathroom with closed doors and fan off for about 30 minutes, while hot water from a shower is on. You can always turn the fan on later while the door is closed if you don’t want the humid air in your house. Important: DO NOT WET THE COSTUME.
DANCE ATTIRE:
Besides the costumes, all students need to have the appropriate dance attire for each dance. Dance attire items are: dance shoes, dance tights, undergarments, foot covers, warm up items, etc.
ANY dance attire (except tennis shoes for hip hop and undergarment for male students) should be purchased at a store or website specialized in dance attire. Dance items available at the regular retail stores (Target, Walmart, Amazon, etc.) are not suitable for our dance classes or performances. We have ballet slippers and ballet tights available at our online store. You can also purchase dance attire at: www.discountdance.com www.capezio.com www.blochworld.com
If ballet slippers are required, female students must wear canvas, split sole, light pink color slippers. Male students must wear black or white canvas ballet slippers, depending on the costume.
If pink tights are required, please purchase CAPEZIO brand ballet tights with NO SEAMS, ballet pink or light pink color.
During Picture Day, Dress Rehearsal Day and Performance Days, private dressing rooms will not be available. All costume changes will be held in a collective dressing room. For this reason, all students must wear an undergarment.
Undergarment for male students: fitted shirt and fitted shorts under their costume. Purchase at any retail store.
Undergarment for female students: nude or beige color leotard. Undergarment is included with the costumes for all female students ages 12 and under.
All students will need to wear a cover up over their dance shoes when they are not on stage. Thick socks or warm up boots are acceptable.
Nail polish may not be used for pictures or performances. No watches or jewelry. This includes ANY kind of earrings. If any kind of jewelry is required, we will let students and parents know.
